How to Choose an Eternity Ring

Posted on: June 28, 2011

There are different ways to say I love you. But there is only one good way to say I'll love you forever-through the use of an eternity ring. Gaining in popularity over the past couple of years, eternity rings symbolizes an eternal bond between two people. This type of ring allows the person to remember your promise of eternal love to him every time he/ she looks at it. If the diamonds go all the way around, then it symbolizes how your love is a continuous circle that never ends. Giving an eternity ring to someone shows them how strongly you feel about that person, it's also a display of your commitment to that same person for the rest of your life.

According to some, the stones of the rings also represent something about their relationship. Experts suggest you put a romantic touch on the ring by choosing which stones to put in. You can start by choosing each stone to represent the day you first met, first kiss, the day you fell in love, wedding day, children, etc. Others also choose stones that represent romantic milestones that have not happened yet or memories that will soon be added in their love diary.

Eternity Rings make for excellent gifts for a number of special occasions. The new emotions and general revelry that comes with the birth of a child is an especially good one, with the rings being a good way to mark that wondrous time. The name alone implies they make excellent wedding rings, complimenting most types of engagement rings with very little effort. The more timeless designs of an Eternity Ring ensure that it never goes out of style and can go well with practically anything the woman wears. The beauty and grace of the gems also tend to remain that way far longer than more traditional wedding rings.

There are two general types to pick from. Full Eternity Rings have diamonds or other stones that go all the way around. This is good for those who want the maximum amount of gem-related extravagance to their rings. These tend to cost much more due to the need to be custom-fitted, since the stones are around it. This can make it difficult to resize later on. However, for symbolism of eternal love, it does outclass the half rings.

A half ring only has the stones placed on the top part of the ring, the area that doesn't press against the skin when the hand is closed. This makes it possible to resize it even after the gems have been set in place, as well as being more accommodating of larger gem cuts. They can be quite dazzling depending on the quality and size of the gems used. Half rings are also typically more comfortable for most people. However, jewelers do keep comfort in mind when designing such rings, so this is not a common issue.
